It became official today. Peyton Manning signed with the Broncos. I would rather see him in a Titans uniform than a Broncos uniform but I guess they just gave him a better deal. In all honesty though, I think Elway wanted Peyton because that was his only way to get rid of Tebow. If he would've gotten rid of him any other way, the fans of Denver would not be happy at all. I am saying this because the Broncos organization said if Peyton were to sign in Denver, Tebow will be traded. I am not really sure where Tebow would actually fit though. The Seahawks were able to sign Matt Flynn. Jake locker definitely deserves some more play time, and Gabbert also deserves one more shot with the Jags. I think the only plausible places would be in Cleveland or Miami.
This helps Alex Smith tremendously with his contract situation as well. While I don't believe he deserves any sort of raise for what he did last year, this gives him leverage because who else would they sign? Flynn and Manning are both off of the board now. The 49ers season was all defense. They were setting defensive records all season and Alex Smith had no part in any offensive records. As a matter a fact, David Akers set the field goals in a season record because Alex didn't know how to get the ball in the end zone once he got inside the 20.
Back to Tebow. If Tebow goes to Miami or Cleveland, does anyone really expect him to be able to put up good numbers? The Browns just got rid of Payton Hillis, and the Dolphins got rid of Brandon Marshall. What kind of weapons would he be able to use in the 4th quarter? He will get signed by someone just because of his work ethic. Someone will take a shot at him and then realize how stupid they were for doing so. To Elway and Co. this is a complete win-win situation. He got rid of Tebow and signed a real QB.
